With the objective of carrying the sustainability target of “Living Soil, Local Seed” project to future generations directly, “Let’s Talk Soil” children and agriculture project was put into practice.
To enable the integration of two cultures through agricultural activities, 40 refugee and 40 local children received education together. The project started on the field of Mardin Bahçeşehir College, and later turned into an education model applied in all of the schools of the region. In the program carrying out theoretical and practical training together, the students were trained every week by Agricultural Engineers education regarding soil and seed growth using the international literature and drama techniques for children. “How the soil gets sick?”, “How it is treated?”, “How healthy foods are grown?”, “How we manage our wastes?” are some of the titles of the training. In the training program, students in the age group of 8-12 were introduced to soil on the gardens of their schools, learned planting ancient seeds, observed the change of soil and development of seed in strawberry and potato gardens, and collected their own products.
